Why Green Visions? – Impact Without Side Effects

“Green Visions stands for impact – but also for responsibility. We take objections seriously and clearly show why our model is sustainable and safe.”

The most common objection: “Paulownia is invasive.”
It’s true: the species Paulownia tomentosa (“Princess Tree”) is classified as potentially invasive in parts of the USA because, under certain conditions, it can escape from gardens into disturbed habitats. This concern is valid and highlights one key point: planting the right hybrid and ensuring professional management are crucial.

Why the Shan Tong Paulownia?

At Green Visions – together with our partner KIRI Group AG – we don’t use the classic Tomentosa, but rather the specifically bred Shan Tong hybrid (Paulownia fortunei × Paulownia tomentosa). This hybrid combines the advantages of both species while eliminating the risks.Safety Features of the Shan Tong Paulownia:

Controlled Propagation: Planting is done exclusively vegetatively through seedlings – ensuring full control over every single plant.

No Seed Spread: Even after flowering, no viable seeds develop. Uncontrolled spreading is therefore practically impossible.

Late Blooming: Shan Tong flowers only after 4–5 years at the earliest.

Non-invasive and specifically developed for sustainable plantation forestry.

Myth vs. Fact

The Truth About Paulownia

Myth: “Paulownia is invasive and spreads uncontrollably.”

Fact: The classic Paulownia tomentosa can act invasively in some regions. At Green Visions, however, the Shan Tong hybrid is used – it flowers only after 4–5 years and produces no viable seeds. Uncontrolled spreading is therefore impossible.

Myth: “Plantations displace natural areas.”

Fact: Green Visions plants exclusively in controlled plantations – not in protected areas or natural habitats. Every Paulownia tree used commercially relieves pressure on a tree in our native forests.

Myth: “Paulownia consumes too much water.”

Fact: In the initial phase, every tree requires water, similar to other crops. Through precise, site-adapted irrigation and sustainable care, resource consumption remains within limits – and it’s important to note: compared to other utility timber species, the Paulownia Shan Tong requires among the lowest annual rainfall.

Myth: “It’s just a passing trend.”

Fact: Paulownia, especially the Shan Tong hybrid, is used worldwide in research and practice as a sustainable raw material and CO₂ binder. More and more companies in Europe are now also turning to Paulownia wood, as industries increasingly seek alternative timber sources.
